Cigar Lighter
Refilling and Lighting Procedures For Cigar Lighters by Dave Sabot
Wind resistant lighters allow you to enjoy that pipe, cigar or even cigarettes in the windiest of conditions, ensuring that you are able to smoke when you wish. However, no matter how little you use that lighter, you’ll eventually need to refill it. When this happens, you’ll probably encounter one of the most common questions to plague smokers. Can you light your lighter immediately after refilling it? It surprising the number of smokers who do not know the right answer to this simple question.
Before reading further, you should understand that using your lighter immediately after refilling it is not advised. Most experts and manufacturers recommend that you allow the fuel to come to room temperature prior to lighting your lighter once more. While this will necessitate a wait, it’s much safer for you. Not only does this ensure that your lighter works properly, but it also helps to ensure that any overspray of fluid has evaporated, keeping you safe from burns.
How should you refill your lighter correctly? Hold the lighter vertically in front of you. Keep the bottom of the lighter facing up and locate the fuel nozzle. Now, insert the nozzle of your fuel canister into the receptacle. Keep the lighter and the canister away from your eyes during the refilling process. As a note, some lighter fuel manufacturers recommend that you shake the canister before using it, while others do not. Check the canister to find out which applies to you.
Now that you have inserted the canister into the fuel nozzle, you should press down on the canister. Keep the lighter away from your face and body to avoid any potential spray of fuel. You will hear a hissing sound as the fuel moves from the canister to the lighter. You will also feel the canister and the lighter grow noticeably cooler in your hands. You should allow the fuel to transfer for approximately five seconds, though you may have to repeat the process. You should avoid overfilling your lighter, as this can result in a hazardous condition.
When the lighter is full, set down the canister and allow the contents of the lighter to come to room temperature. Once the fuel has acclimated, you should adjust the flame height to your desired setting and then ignite the lighter, while holding it well away from your face and clothing. If the lighter does not ignite, you’ll need to continue adding fuel and allowing the fuel to warm up.
